How to Use the Elevator (ONW Procedures)

For this project, our group decided to make our video over the process of getting an elevator key at ONW when you are injured. Before we started filming our video, we had to complete multiple different tasks during Pre-Production. One of these processes was storyboarding. During storyboarding, we sketched out what we wanted to show during each shot as well as the camera angles. We also wrote out a script for what we would be showing and then we assigned different roles for the video itself. We also went through a few more planning processes before we started the filming process.

Our group decided to film multiple close ups of different actions first. We then moved in to our other shots, where we showed where and how to get an elevator key as well as how to use it. When we combined our close ups with our more wide shots, it created a good variety of shots that complimented each other well. We had a few growing pains along the way, but we eventually got all the shots we needed. Once we had exported our videos to our computers, we started the editing process. This mainly consisted of sequencing and cutting our shots so they would fit the 30 second mark. I also added a few transition effects and changed the framing of a few tilted shots.

My role throughout the making of this video was a director. This was definitely a big learning experience for me since I hadn't really taken the lead role in any of my previous videos. I learned that it is very important to take charge of your group members, and to be confident in the decisions I made. I also learned just how important the pre-production process truly is. It is very important to clearly plan out what you want to show so you can fit the time limit. I also learned a lot about white balance and the importance of having a steady shot because if either of these are messed up, it will really screw up your video. I think I definitely did a good job at collaborating with my group and listening to their ideas. I also think I did a pretty good job with communication and my technical skills. My main weaknesses were my leadership and project management. Like I said earlier, I could have taken control a little more in our group and I also should have planned ahead for any issues in the filming process.

If I were to do this project again, I think I would still include a lot of the shot types that we had. However, I definitely would have taken multiple videos of the same shot if we were to do it again so I could then pick the best one available. This way, our shots would be steadier and the color would be better. I think our group did a good job at incorporating a wide variety of interesting shots. I will definitely remember the leadership qualities I learned throughout this project in the future so I can do better with these aspects later in life. As a whole, I think our group did a good job at persevering through the different issues we had and working together to complete our video. We definitely could have done some things better, but as a whole I am happy with how our team worked together.

My Personality Type

ISTJ My personality type is ISTJ. This means I am introverted, sensing, thinking, and judging. People who are classified as an ISTJ are typically very analytical, reliable, and detail-oriented. They tend to value logical reasoning rather than emotional. They tend to prefer to be alone at times, and keep their thoughts to themselves. These people like to use processes that are proven to work, and also like to rely on their past experiences. Some famous people who share this personality type are George Washington, Queen Elizabeth II, and George H.W. Bush. As a whole, I believe this description of me is almost spot on. I think the quiz is definitely correct when it says I am introverted, and prefer to look at logic when reasoning. I believe I am definitely dependable and detail-oriented, but I think I also have some qualities of perceiving, to go along with judging. For example, I always try to not over schedule things, and I work pretty well under pressure. As a whole, I though t...

Typography Project

Typography Overview In this project, we were approached with the task of creating a project to show different terms of typography by using Adobe Illustrator. Before we started, we were given some basic knowledge about typography. This included different fonts, and parts of letters. We were then able to use some of our prior knowledge about Adobe Illustrator to create a name line to show our newfound knowledge. This project once again I believe was a very good stepping stone in my knowledge and I think it will be very useful in the future. What I learned For this project, we started off by writing our names and sizing it appropriately, and then making three lines to represent the general height of different parts of the letters. We then labeled different parts of our name with words and arrows. Once again, the command "Option-Drag" was very useful, as it helped us copy and paste our labels easily. After we had labeled at least ten parts of our name, we tweaked the l...

ONW Now Sophomore Edition

This was definitely the hardest project we've done this year. Not only was the time schedule very hard to meet, but there was also just a lot of things that had to be done. I definitely learned a lot about all the work that goes in to making a good news show. I learned how much goes on behind the scenes, such as what is done in the control room and with the camera and teleprompter. Personally, I really enjoyed working in the control room for this project. It was definitely a lot of pressure to work completely on the go. I had a huge part in the live recording of the show, which was definitely stressful, but I still enjoyed it. After doing this project, I would say the most important aspect of a successful news show is organization. It is extremely important for everybody to know exactly what their job is so they can execute perfectly. It is also very important to have good communication among your crew. For example, we didn't do a great job at communicating with our anchors...
