Music Video

Pre-Production

For this project, we were separated into groups and were told we had to either recreate a real music video, or create our own from scratch. Our group decided we would recreate a music video for our project. For our song, we decided to go with "Bet on it" from High School Musical 2. In this video, the actor starts out a little troubled, and ends in a very confident and defiant mood. Our group wanted to help recreate this change of mood in our music video. To start the process of making this video, we had to complete our pre-production work. This was by far the most work we've had to do in pre-production for any of our videos. We had to make a beat sheet, which showed what was going on in each individual clip, as well as the length of the clips. We also had to storyboard, and show the mood of the music video in the beginning, middle, and end. Our group was very productive in pre-production, and finished as quick as we could so we could get right in to filming. The last thing we did before filming was to assign roles to the members in our team. We assigned an actor, director, choreographers, and cameraman, although we all helped each other with each role. My main role for this project was the cameraman.

When we were filming our music video, we ran in to a lot of issues. We found that it was very difficult to find a day that everyone was available to film that also had decent weather to film in. Our group planned to film multiple days that we eventually had to call off because of the weather, which resulted in our time table being pushed back. Once we finally found a good day to film, we kind of had to rush some of the shots we needed in order to meet the deadline. Thus, some of the shots were not as good as we would have liked. On filming day, we quickly picked a location that would fit the needs for the shots that we needed. When filming each individual shot, we tried to do shots with the similar widths and heights closer together, so we didn't have to adjust the tripod for each shot. This definitely helped us to film very efficiently. We eventually finished all of the shots we needed, and moved in to post production.

Post Production

Overall, the process of editing for this project was pretty straightforward. Almost all of the editing we had to do consisted of simply sequencing our shots and making sure they lined up correctly with the audio. This was definitely difficult in some situations because our shots were either too short or too long to fit the needed space. To fix this, we had to play with the speed of some shots or cut shots shorter than they were in the actual video. Our entire group split up time working at the computer, but even though only one person was editing at a time, the rest of the group was still giving input on what we thought looked best. We didn't have a ton of extra time to work with some color correction and special effects for our video, so I didn't learn a lot of new editing techniques. However, I still feel more comfortable in premier pro than I did previously.

Conclusion

As a whole, our entire group did a pretty good job at working together and utilizing the five guarantees. We had to assign roles and communicate a lot with each other in order to be productive with our work. We also had to plan ahead a lot, and we had to have some people take charge to keep our group on track. Overall, if I were to do this project again, I would have definitely picked a music video that was inside. I think that would have made this process so much easier for all of us, because we were all very productive when we were actually working. I also would have chose to looked closer at the clips we had while we were still filming, so we wouldn't have some unfocused shots or shots that didn't fit our timeline. However, given the circumstances we had, I am definitely happy with our end result. Looking to the future, I will definitely pay more attention to some of the smaller details in my shots. I will also be more careful to fix some of the basic aspects of a shot such as focus and lighting. As a whole, this project was incredibly frustrating to work on, but was also extremely rewarding. I definitely think this project helped to improve myself as a filmmaker, and I am happy with what we created.

Printing Processes

We watched multiple videos about different types of printing processes. We learned about the relief process, the intaglio process, and the lithography process. Each process uses different materials and tools that help to make their designs unique. Here is a more in-depth view of each individual process: Relief Process:  Relief printing is the process of cutting away at a surface in order to create an image from the raised area. In a step by step process of this, first you can draw directly onto a linoleum block with a marker. Then, a linoleum cutter is used to cut away what you have drawn on the block. This means that whatever you have drawn will eventually be in white, while the blank space will be black. Then, ink will be applied to your linoleum block with a roller. Lastly, you can place a piece of paper on the linoleum block and apply light pressure in order to reveal your image. After letting the ink dry, this process is finished. Example of relief process . Movie Trailer Remake

Pre-Production For this project, we were assigned a specific movie about high school, and were told to remake the trailer. My group was assigned "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for our movie. I was pretty excited about this project to start with because I really like the movie I got, and I thought I got a good group. However, this project was certainly not an easy task, so we had a lot of work to do. We started off with all of our pre-production activities. This included story boarding, completing a beat sheet, and figuring out who to cast for each role. Our group decided to mainly cast from our own group to make scheduling a little easier. However, we still casted all of our adults, plus two of our main characters from outside our group. Before we started filming, we also figured out what we were going to do for locations, props, and costumes. Most of our group chipped in for some props or costumes, and we mainly decided the locations as a group. Once we had all of that

Semester 2 Video Production Review

Projects Movie Trailer Recreation For this project, we were put into groups and told to recreate a high school movie trailer. Our group ended up recreating the trailer for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". This entire process took about a month to complete, and had many challenges built in to it. The main challenge we came upon was scheduling with our actors. We found it was extremely difficult to find a time that all of our actors and team members could be in the same place at the same time. Throughout the making of this video, I learned a lot about the use of microphones and sound. I learned how to operate a boom mic and also learned more about how to use your music and audio effectively. At the end of this project, we mostly received positive feedback. The main negative on our piece was that some of the music did not stay true to the actual video. So, for our re-edits, we imported some of the actual music from the video to make it more accurate. Overall, I think our gro
