ONW Now Sophomore Edition

This was definitely the hardest project we've done this year. Not only was the time schedule very hard to meet, but there was also just a lot of things that had to be done. I definitely learned a lot about all the work that goes in to making a good news show. I learned how much goes on behind the scenes, such as what is done in the control room and with the camera and teleprompter. Personally, I really enjoyed working in the control room for this project. It was definitely a lot of pressure to work completely on the go. I had a huge part in the live recording of the show, which was definitely stressful, but I still enjoyed it. After doing this project, I would say the most important aspect of a successful news show is organization. It is extremely important for everybody to know exactly what their job is so they can execute perfectly. It is also very important to have good communication among your crew. For example, we didn't do a great job at communicating with our anchors...

Video Semester Review

My Projects ONW in 2000 This project was a story about someone at Olathe Northwest who has a unique talent or participates in a group at ONW. This project took about three weeks for us to complete. It took a long time to finish this project because this was pretty much our first experience with news stories. This new type of project came with some difficulties, such as conducting interviews and working with microphones and sound. During this project, I learned about the different film processes used during news and feature stories. I also learned more about sound and how to use the different equipment and software. After I made this video, my teacher told us to try and have a closer cut for our interview and to make sure the audio levels of our clips matched. She also told me to use a larger variety of b-roll. I made all of these changes in my video and then turned in my revised version of our story. I am very pleased with my end product and I think I did a very good job at tellin...

Self Performance Review

My Projects Infographic Throughout this semester, I have completed several different projects using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. This project was an infographic. This was by far our biggest project of the year, as we worked on it for more than two weeks, as there were a lot of steps to go through. We started by researching a topic of our choice. After that, we started to sketch out ideas for our final layouts and our graphics. Once we had done this, we completed a more detailed version of the layout we were going to use. We then made each individual graphic in illustrator, then we added all of these to one document to create our final layout. One of the main difficulties I experienced along the way was coming up with ideas for my final layout. I had a lot of graphics that I wanted to use, but I didn't know how I wanted to bring it all together. I learned a lot about CARP and how to use the pen tool during this project. During the project, my peers gave me constructiv...

Written News Story

ONW Students Receive Laptops By Josh Burton This week at Olathe Northwest, all students have been given district issued Dell laptops for their own educational use at school. The laptops will be used by students throughout their school day and teachers will be encouraged to create lessons incorporating the devises. The Dell laptops that were given out are very portable and extremely easy to use both at home and at school. Chris Zuck, the principal at Olathe Northwest said: “I truly hope that these new devices will help to enhance our students’ learning at school as we continue to modernize our classrooms.” Olathe Northwest is not the first Olathe school to receive electronics, however, as these laptops have already been distributed to multiple other high schools in the Olathe school district. Now the Olathe schools will continue the next step of this long process: making these devices an essential part of their classrooms. This above piece of writing is my written news s...

Diversity at ONW

Our group chose to make our feature story about diversity at Olathe Northwest. Starting off, our group had to come up with multiple ideas for natural noise that we could use during our piece. This included things such as a school bell, pencils moving, or just students moving and talking around the school. We also storyboarded and thought of different clips we could use to visually add to our story. Then we assigned roles to each member of our team so we could all contribute to the final product in some way. After that, we chose who we wanted to interview for our video and then began writing questions for each interviewee. We also began laying out our ideas on to paper by creating a script. Once we started filming, we interviewed the people we wanted so we had a better idea of how we wanted to structure our video. Then we recorded b-roll in various places around the school. However, we probably did not record enough b-roll, as we were kind of left grasping at straws to extend our vid...

Watercolor Transfer

For this project, we started off by taking our previous projects and sizing them appropriately. We then printed these photos. After that, we used water colors to paint a blank sheet of paper however we wanted. Once our paint had dried, we started the actual printing process. We cut our picture with a small border (1/2 to 1 inch) of white paper around it. Then, we applied mod podge to the areas with ink on it. Then we placed our photo face down onto our water colors (side with ink facing down). After that, we used a squeegee. With the squeegee, we applied light pressure to the entire image and tried to squeeze our all of the bubbles and places with too much mod podge. We had to be very careful to not get the excess mod podge on the back of our image, or else it would make later steps much much difficult. Once we successfully squeezed out the extra mod podge, we left it to dry over night. The next day, we used a small amount of water to wet our image. We then started to rub away the wh...

ONW in 2000

For this project, we started by choosing our subject and story. We decided to make our story about Maleah Boyd and Raven Dance Team. After we chose this, we started to set up interviews with the people we needed for our video. For pre-production, we also planned out what else we would need to film or receive for b-roll. Once we had a solid plan for what we needed to get, we filmed our actual interview with Maleah. We also got some additional b-roll from various parts of the school and got some clips from Maleah of her and the dance team. This lead us in to the editing process where we started by sequencing our shots. Once we had our shots sequenced and edited accordingly, we recorded a voiceover to help bring our information together in the video. We then presented our videos and got some positive and negative feedback. Next, we reedited our video based on the feedback we received. Throughout this entire process, my main role was to keep our group on track and make sure we got our ...
