Semester 2 Video Production Review

Projects Movie Trailer Recreation For this project, we were put into groups and told to recreate a high school movie trailer. Our group ended up recreating the trailer for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". This entire process took about a month to complete, and had many challenges built in to it. The main challenge we came upon was scheduling with our actors. We found it was extremely difficult to find a time that all of our actors and team members could be in the same place at the same time. Throughout the making of this video, I learned a lot about the use of microphones and sound. I learned how to operate a boom mic and also learned more about how to use your music and audio effectively. At the end of this project, we mostly received positive feedback. The main negative on our piece was that some of the music did not stay true to the actual video. So, for our re-edits, we imported some of the actual music from the video to make it more accurate. Overall, I think our gro

Graphic Design Second Semester Review

Projects Typography For this project, we had to come up with quotes and then make four unique typography designs using various colors and fonts. We completed this project over the span of about 1-2 weeks. This project was difficult for me because I tend to get stuck on the same idea often, so when I came up with one design, I struggled to create other unique and interesting layouts for my type. I also struggled to find good colors to use for some of my designs. This project really helped me to learn much more about the use of type/text in designs. I learned how to make fonts stand out by using different font types such as script and serif. I also became much more comfortable with the pen tool as I had to trace certain graphics. For this project, I often asked my peers what fonts or colors they preferred so that my designs could look even better. With my original designs, most of them were very similar and did not include very many graphics. So, in order to make my designs more in

Movie Trailer Remake

Pre-Production For this project, we were assigned a specific movie about high school, and were told to remake the trailer. My group was assigned "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for our movie. I was pretty excited about this project to start with because I really like the movie I got, and I thought I got a good group. However, this project was certainly not an easy task, so we had a lot of work to do. We started off with all of our pre-production activities. This included story boarding, completing a beat sheet, and figuring out who to cast for each role. Our group decided to mainly cast from our own group to make scheduling a little easier. However, we still casted all of our adults, plus two of our main characters from outside our group. Before we started filming, we also figured out what we were going to do for locations, props, and costumes. Most of our group chipped in for some props or costumes, and we mainly decided the locations as a group. Once we had all of that

Vector Portrait

Pre-Production To start out with this project, I had to choose a picture for me to vectorize. I don't take a lot of pictures, so I didn't have a lot of pictures to choose from. I eventually decided to crop myself out of a picture with my family and use that for my vectorized portrait. Once I imported this picture, I brought it in to Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop, I used the posterize option to clearly separate the differences in color. This allowed me to make more specific shapes that would eventually make my portrait look a little more realistic. Then I imported this updated picture into Adobe Illustrator. When I started in Illustrator, I had to make two art boards. Both of the art boards would have my original picture on it. However, one of them would have a decreased opacity, and that picture would be the one I trace over to create my vector. The other picture was simply used for reference, and to grab colors for my vector. Production When I first started this project

Music Video

Pre-Production For this project, we were separated into groups and were told we had to either recreate a real music video, or create our own from scratch. Our group decided we would recreate a music video for our project. For our song, we decided to go with "Bet on it" from High School Musical 2. In this video, the actor starts out a little troubled, and ends in a very confident and defiant mood. Our group wanted to help recreate this change of mood in our music video. To start the process of making this video, we had to complete our pre-production work. This was by far the most work we've had to do in pre-production for any of our videos. We had to make a beat sheet, which showed what was going on in each individual clip, as well as the length of the clips. We also had to storyboard, and show the mood of the music video in the beginning, middle, and end. Our group was very productive in pre-production, and finished as quick as we could so we could get right in to film

Typography

Pre Production To start this project, we had to pick ten quotes from online or ourselves. I decided to mainly do quotes that are motivating and inspirational. After that, we went on to dafont.com and started downloading different fonts that we liked. I chose a few generic fonts that could be used for the larger chunks of text that I didn't want to emphasize. Then I chose some more bold and creative fonts for some of the specific words I would be using in my designs. After I chose my fonts, I started to work on my four designs. Once I had started my designs, I ended up downloading a few other fonts that fit my current idea better.  Production During this project, I definitely improved my skills in illustrator. I learned how to effectively pair fonts. Also, I improved a lot with the pen tool. I was able to trace a few images to create graphics, as well as edit a few fonts. I also learned that if you add a stroke to your text, you can add some dimension or make it bolder than

ONW Now Sophomore Edition

This was definitely the hardest project we've done this year. Not only was the time schedule very hard to meet, but there was also just a lot of things that had to be done. I definitely learned a lot about all the work that goes in to making a good news show. I learned how much goes on behind the scenes, such as what is done in the control room and with the camera and teleprompter. Personally, I really enjoyed working in the control room for this project. It was definitely a lot of pressure to work completely on the go. I had a huge part in the live recording of the show, which was definitely stressful, but I still enjoyed it. After doing this project, I would say the most important aspect of a successful news show is organization. It is extremely important for everybody to know exactly what their job is so they can execute perfectly. It is also very important to have good communication among your crew. For example, we didn't do a great job at communicating with our anchors
